Body For Life
Body For Life is a 12 week fitness plan that goes beyond eating and exercise. The plan was created by Bill Phillips, a former competitive bodybuilder. Body For Life combines exercise with nutrition while also addressing the mental and emotional aspect of fitness. There is a yearly challenge for the best transformations, judging is based on physical changes as well as the mental transformatiion challengers make.
The Nutrition
Body For Life offers a balanced menu of 40% Carbs, 40% Protein, and 20% Fats. You will eat 6 smaller, balanced meals per day, 6 days a week. On the 7th day you will eat whatever you want, its your reward for being so good all week long, just make sure you get right back on track the next day and the plan will amaze you
You do not have to count calories or weigh your food. Bill Phillips presents a simple portioning guide. Each meal will consist of a portion of protein that is the size of the palm of your hand, a portion of complex carbohydrates that is the size of your fist. And at least two of your meals will contain fibrous carbs equal to the size of your open hand. The book provides a list of each of the allowed/recomended foods in each catigory. There is a great cookbook that you can purchase to help you maintain a good balance in your eating beyond the 12 weeks.
The Exercise
You will exercise 6 days a week, alternating between HIIT cardio, upper and lower body. You will choose two exercises per body part and perform them in a reducing rep, increasing weight manner. One of the best parts of this exercising plan is it is based on your percieved rate of exertion. There are not set weights you should be lifting, you lift what you feel is heavy to YOU. Just make sure you hit your "10's".
The Mind
Setting goals is one of the most important parts of any project you embark upon in life. The Body For Life book will help you in your goal setting and help you understand why they are needed. Good goals are goals that are measurable and achievable. If you can not measure them, how do you know when you have reached them? You can't.
